Connect with nature while you hone your observational and artistic skills in the tropical atmosphere of the Bolz Conservatory! Whether you are an avid artist or an enthusiastic nature nerd starting a journaling habit, botanical illustration is a beautiful way to appreciate the form and function of living things. Through close observation of form, shape, and scale, we absorb more details about our subject and it helps bring our art to life. See supply list for materials needed.

Learn to use a nature journal to connect with plants, animals, landscape, and yourself. We will practice letting go of details and focus on capturing forms and flow with quick sketching, adding basic color, and taking notes that put our experience of the moment on the page. While we will answer some botanical and ecological questions, the main focus will be to center and commemorate the experience in your journal. This class will take place outdoors; please dress for the weather.

Junior Naturalist Program
July 7-11, 2025
Lussier Family Heritage Center
Madison, WI
Join me this summer as I partner again with Dane County Parks as a guest instructor for their Junior Naturalist Camp at the Lussier Family Heritage Center! In July 2025 I'll work with the Painted Turtles group for their "Artistry Adventures" program. (see pg 13 in the camp brochure)
We'll play games to hone observation skills and stoke our curiosity, draw plants in detail to get comfortable with color and shape, and finally create a piece of collaborative artwork for display at the LFHC!
Storm drain mural initiative
dane county, wisconsin
A project of the Madison Area Municipal Stormwater Partnership (MAMSWaP) and Dane County Land and Water Resources Department, outreach specialists visit schools and communities to remind us that that runoff entering storm drains flows untreated to local waterways. Based on youth drawings, my designs are painted with community members of all ages.
